Burnage Media Arts College - Human Resources - Jobs vacancies & offers

Lead Teacher - Mathematics

MPS+ TLR 1a (£7,323)

  • The closing date is Friday 24th February 2012 at 9.00am.
  • Interviews will be held on Thursday 1st March 2012.

Background

BMAC is an increasingly successful 11-16 Boys comprehensive that predominantly draws its students from the Longsight, Levenshulme, Rusholme and Burnage wards. We currently have about 840 boys on roll. Results for 2011 GCSEs continue to improve as has been the trend now for several years. The headline figure of 5A*-C is up from 52% last year to 58% this year, and the 5A*-C including English and Maths has increased from 43% last year to 49% this year. These are the best our results have ever been. They are not as good as we believe they should be.

We also believe that education is more than just about 5A*-C and our tag line is 'Be the Best that you can Be'. This refers to 4 areas of life: Academic success, Attendance, Behaviour and Morality. We benefit from having over 30 languages spoken in the school. The profile on entry is skewed towards the bottom end socio-economically and academically.

The Maths faculty has been on a journey over the last 10 years. On my arrival there were more vacancies than appointed Maths teachers, one of whom I never met. The pass rate in 2001 was about 14%. This year it reached 60%. Transformation is a word that is overused in education but I think it applies to the Maths team. It is now led by a new Head of Maths, Dena Broderick, who comes with an outstanding track record and who is further galvanising an already strong team to achieve our aspiration of every child making at least 3 levels of progress from Key Stage 2 to 4.
