Burnage Media Arts College is a highly successful all Boys Comprehensive School three miles South of Manchester City Centre. We currently have over 900 boys on roll. Under the Leadership of our Headteacher (Ian Fenn) we have achieved over 51% five A -C GCSE’s last year (with 33% 5 A*-C including English and Maths). At our last OFSTED inspection (November 2006) we were given a grade 2 overall and you should read the report before considering applying for this position.
There are over 30 nationalities and 32 languages groups in the student population and English is a second language for approximately 80% of students on entry. Only about 15% of students come from within walking distance of the school, the remainder travel in from Longsight, Moss Side and Levenshulme.
We gained Media Arts status in 2007 and this is crucial to the continued development of our school. GCSE Media has been an outstandingly popular and successful subject and the three main subject areas contained within our bid (Media, English and Drama) represent the most successful subjects in the school with performance ranked amongst the best in Manchester. We are currently undergoing a major new build and refurbishment programme as part of BSF which will equip us with ‘state of the art’ Media facilities in 12 months time. We are seeking to appoint a vibrant, talented individual to lead the school in this area and build on our previous success.
